Teaching and Learning

Our approach is very much child-centred. Our aim is to enable children to develop as independent thinkers and learners, who are valued for what they contribute as individuals and so promoting a good self image.

The range of experiences we provide are all linked into themes relevant to the children and in which they can be actively involved. We promote learning through the ‘Planning in the moment’ programme by Anna Ephgrave which allows children to lead their play and learning and we plan learning which extends on each child’s ideas.

Learning is very carefully planned in line with Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, to include all seven areas of learning, structured to address individual learning needs.

We have a positive integration programme for children with previously identified special needs to create understanding, caring and supportive attitudes amongst all the children.

Curriculum projects and specialist support

At Perry Beeches Nursery School we aim to provide children with an enriched curriculum through working in partnership with a range of specialist services, organisations and individuals to include the areas of Drama, Storytelling, Health Education and Music.

The Playhouse Theatre

We work closely with the Playhouse Theatre group, who visit our setting regularly to provide a range of Drama based activities for our Nursery children to enjoy. Their sessions include Storytelling workshops and Interactive Drama performances, which foster and develop a range of skills and areas including the children's imaginations, their communication and language skills and self-confidence.

Storytelling sessions this year have included Hansel and Gretel, Jack and the Beanstalk and Anansi the Spider traditional tales
